You guys realize of course that talking to us like this is a disfellowshipping offence...
He thinks he's Don Quixote fighting windmills.

A Believer,
You wake up one morning and see, The UN has banned religion. What are you're thoughts?
Silly boy. Grow up.
it really is great.
i remember browsing this forum the day after i had joined it, and their was a knock on the door.
i thought it was one of my package from ups but instead it was two sisters.
A Believer,
The Bible is about how Gods intention for the Earth was to be a paradise, and how it will be returned to that way.
It seems that you don't know your Christian scriptures at all. In it you'll find that the crux of those scriptures is about God's plan for salvation of sinful man not some pretty trees and cute Panda Bears. It's sad that an atheist should have to tell you this.
i have a nearly academic interest in the occult, though i am not a spiritualist and remain a skeptic.
i've come to learn that demons are based on everything from dust devils in the desert, to diseases, to actual people.
probably most of all, demons are a tool of good ol' fashioned con artists and fear mongers.. but here's a question.
One of the most fascinating, and somewhat sad, things Sir Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes detective series, accepted Theosophy completely right down to the existence of fairies. One of his not so memorable books was entitled The Coming of the Fairies. In it he tried to prove the existence of those wee critters by using the most ridiculous and obviously fake photographs. A supreme irony that he was the author of a character that was a super logical detective.
Doyle was haunted, not by demons but by many of his dead relatives who died a premature death during his lifetime. He took comfort with Theosophy's promise that one can communicate with the dead.
Below is one of the photographs that he took seriously in his book.
it really is great.

I came to this thread late but here's my two cents. A poem that I wrote sometime ago.
You're going to grow old and gray
And if you ever have children so will they
So remember me on this very day
When in defiance of your false prophet
I lift up my voice and say
You, your children and their grandchildren
Are going to grow old and gray
All of you who follow the Watchtower way
Do not look upon tomorrow with conceit and arrogance
For you will be humbled, bowing, no more haughty stance
Just remember me on that future day
When you finally have grown old and gray
Remember your foolish lie
When it's time for you to die
so my parents continue to pester me about getting baptized.
the other day my dad told me that i was old enough to make a decision, and was wondering why i wasn't ready (assembly is in a few weeks) so i told him calmly that i have many doubts and if i were to get baptized it has to be 100 percent my idea.
he was a little annoyed by this, and now wants to study the "is there a creator that cares about you" book (which is complete bs) with me.
You mentioned before that your father has anger issues. That means that you should not study with him at all since it will aggravate both you and him.
Does he have "explosive rage" where he shouts at the top of his lungs instantly for no good reason? If so, then count the days until you're 18.
Be prepared to have a job by then and find a roommate ahead of time.
my daughter asked if anyone has heard anything about a 'big announcement' being made sometime this week in congregations in canada and possibly beyond... in her words "it's like a biggggg long thing, they cut out part of the book study for it and people heard it was a historical thing"... any ideas?
could it be the mexican branch closing or the theme of the convention?
or something else?
I remember hearing, from a talk by a circuit overseer, that "the society has information available that we are going to be persecuted". He did not go into details. I asked the elder I was studying with what that information was. He did not give me a reply.
Many years later, the same overseer, same talk.
it's no secret that both remaining a jw or leaving the wts can take a toll on mental health.
some will suffer from depression and ultimately some will have thoughts of suicide and a few will succumb to those.. but i don't recall ever seeing any hard stats or studies on it though.
i'm sure we all know of some people who have committed suicide but i don't know if, because you may have loose association with a much larger pool of people through the religion, that this only seems higher or maybe not be actually higher than the general population.. what i mean is, you go to a kh here there maybe 100-150 people, you attend circuit and district conventions with many tens of thousands - if any one person commits suicide then you likely hear about it and it becomes part of the anecdotal 'evidence' that is then put forward as a fact that there is a higher rate ... but is there?.
I remember one of my judicial committee elders tell me that those who were out of the 'Truth' were prone to committing suicide. I really hated him after that.
my first time posting here but i have seen links to this site and clicked when i was doing research about the jw's.
i don't think you want to hear about my long boring story how i was raised a jw in south korea and moved with my family to the usa before i turned 16. like most of us ex-jw's and faders and dis-fellowshiped jw's we all have about the same story.
the only difference is now how i living my life.
Welcome to the forum kpop! Look forward to your posts particularly on atheism.
for those that still care to read the bible of course.
those that don't, please keep the snarky comments to yourselves :-).
i am assuming nwt is not very popular?.
Thanks for the NRSV recommendation NikL and SBF.
I'm partial to using Biblegateway, it's easy to use and provides close to 50 different translations including four different NRSVs!
